🌋 MOUNT AETHERN 🌋
The Heart of Xytheria's Greatest Mystery
No structure, kingdom, or wonder in the known world is more iconic than Mount Aethern.
Towering above the clouds and visible from hundreds of miles away, the sacred mountain has served as the seat of the Xytherian Empire for thousands of years. Upon its summit stands the Imperial Capital itself, a sprawling city of gold, stone, and celestial architecture ruled by Emperor Cin, Emress Consort Vesta, and Empress Consort Savory. To many, Mount Aethern is more than a mountain. It is a symbol of permanence, power, and divine favor. It has watched empires rise and fall, witnessed wars that reshaped continents, and endured long before the first records of dragon civilization were ever written.
Yet for all that is known about Mount Aethern, far more remains a mystery.
Ancient maps depict tunnels that no longer exist. Explorers speak of discovering passageways that seem to appear overnight. Entire chambers have been found buried miles beneath the surface, their creators unknown and their purpose even less understood. Scholars have spent centuries attempting to chart the mountain's interior only to return with conflicting accounts. Some swear the caverns shift and change. Others insist the deeper passages are far larger than the mountain should physically allow.
Theories surrounding Mount Aethern have become nearly as legendary as the mountain itself.
📜 Some believe the mountain is the final resting place of an ancient dragon god.
📜 Some claim a lost civilization once thrived within its depths before vanishing without explanation.
📜 Others insist the mountain serves as a gateway to another realm entirely.
📜 Certain scholars argue that Mount Aethern is older than the world around it and predates recorded creation.
📜 Miners and explorers have reported hearing distant sounds deep beneath the stone, often described as rhythmic and unsettlingly alive.
📜 Religious orders speak of sacred prophecies hidden somewhere within the mountain, waiting to be discovered.
📜 Conspiracy theorists whisper that the Imperial Family knows far more than they reveal.
For generations these stories were dismissed as folklore, exaggeration, or tavern gossip.
Then the earthquakes began.
At first they were little more than minor tremors. Cracked walls, fallen stones and shaken foundations. Nothing unusual for a mountain of such age and size. Yet as months passed the disturbances grew stronger. Roads fractured. Ancient tunnels collapsed. New passages appeared where none had existed before. Entire sections of the mountain seemed to change in ways no scholar could explain.
Now fear spreads throughout the Empire. Citizens whisper in marketplaces. Nobles debate theories in private chambers. Scholars race to uncover answers. And throughout it all, Mount Aethern remains silent. Or perhaps not entirely silent. Because among the growing rumors is one particularly troubling question.
If Mount Aethern has stood unchanged for thousands of years...
Why does it suddenly feel different? And what, exactly, lies waiting beneath the heart of the mountain?
